Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment
Kidney cancer, also known as renal cancer, is one of the most common urologic cancers. Most cases are diagnosed incidentally during imaging tests, but early detection is crucial for successful treatment. At our clinic in Tbilisi, we provide expert care for kidney cancer, from diagnosis to surgery and follow-up.
What Is Kidney Cancer?
Kidney cancer usually begins in the lining of small tubes (renal tubules) in the kidney. The most common type is renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
Risk Factors
Age over 50
Smoking
High blood pressure
Obesity
Family history of kidney cancer
Exposure to toxic substances (e.g. cadmium, certain solvents)
Common Symptoms
Kidney cancer often has no symptoms in early stages, but may present with:

Flank or back pain
Abdominal mass
Fatigue or unexplained weight loss
Fever not related to infection
If you notice blood in your urine, contact a urologist immediately.

We provide a complete workup including:
Ultrasound and CT/MRI of the abdomen
Blood and urine tests

Treatment Options
Treatment depends on the tumor’s size, location, and spread:
Partial nephrectomy – kidney-sparing surgery for small tumors
Radical nephrectomy – full kidney removal for larger or complex tumors
Laparoscopic or robotic surgery – minimally invasive options available
Active surveillance – in selected cases
Immunotherapy or targeted therapy – for advanced/metastatic cancer
